The Holistic Moms Network (HMN) was born from a small support group of moms in New Jersey in 2003.  We have since grown into a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with more than 120 chapters across the country.  Our mission is to generate awareness, education, and support for holistic parenting and green living by providing nurturing, open-minded, and respectful local community networks nationwide that encourage families to share these ideals and learn from each other.

Each year HMN organizes an HMNRaising Online Auction to raise much-needed funds to drive awareness of our organization and vital work.  We depend upon the generosity of our members, donors, sponsors, and supporters to help build our growing communities. Our auction is convenient, well organized and promoted, and easy to star in!

Companies, individuals, organizations, and communities donate holistic, natural, and organic items, trips, show tickets, books, and more to our annual auction.  The event is hosted on OnlineAuction.com and all proceed go to our 501(c)(3) non-profit community.

This event offers a unique opportunity to promote your business to a highly-targeted, holistic audience, while supporting a worthwhile cause.  By pledging your merchandise, assortment of items (such as a gift basket), services or gift certificate, your company will be listed on the HMN website, which receives a considerable amount of traffic from holistic families and practitioners every month.  In addition, the auction is promoted through our Facebook and Twitter networks and other social media channels.

The 2012 Auction will kick off on Saturday, October 6, and end Saturday, October 20, at 4:30 p.m. EST (7:30 p.m. PST).

What makes the Holistic Moms Network different from other moms clubs, social groups, or organizations? In part, it’s our authenticity, our passion, and our commitment. It’s how we bring together local parents for support and join our voices as a national community. And the difference shows on many levels:

  • Diversity. At the Holistic Moms Network there is no litmus test for how “green” or “healthy” you are. We are not about a single issue or one path to living healthier. We welcome everyone wherever they are on their journey and support each other on our quest to make positive changes.
  • National Community. HMN offers local support and a national community. We help connect people in their own neighborhoods, but reach further through our online communities and programs to help build a greener, healthier future for all.
  • Integrity. Holistic Moms was started by moms and these moms still run our growing National community and local Chapters. HMN was not created to solicit to anyone, but to support all parents.
  • Sustainability. Our National organization provides ongoing support and resources to all our members, our Chapters, and our Leaders. We strive to build long-lasting connections and communities, to build relationships, and to help parents on every stage of their journey.
  • Credibility. The Holistic Moms Network was established almost 10 years ago and has grown to include the support and guidance of an established Advisory Board, dedicated green and natural parenting experts, and a Sponsorship community of companies and organizations who share our passion for natural health and holistic living. Each is personally reviewed and chosen from a very select number of professionals, companies, and organizations who share our values and mission. Members know, with confidence, that their personal information will never be shared or sold, and that they will not be added to any marketing lists for products or sales pitches.
  • Resources. Our Network is filled with amazing resources for all of our members. From our Online Member Community and Savings Book to The Wise Mom digital magazine, we offer parents ways to learn and save. Members have access to online discussion forums, our Wellness Savings Club, and many benefits, in addition to activities offered by their local Chapters. And, most of all, we learn from the wisdom of one another, sharing our experiences, knowledge, and passion across the country.
  • Accountability. As a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, HMN serves our community with accountability. Our commitment to our mission and purpose shows through everything that we do.

#BigBFParty: Tweeting About Support – Press Release

Founding sponsor Holistic Moms Network, along with co-sponsors Motherlove Herbal Company, The Leaky Boob, The Willow Store, Bamboobies, Hygeia, PumpEase, Best for Babes, and Mama Pear Designs announced today the success of the World’s Largest Breastfeeding Twitter Party, which took place on August 2nd, at 10 pm EST, hashtag #BigBFParty.

“Our intent in hosting the party was to highlight how important support and community are for breastfeeding success,” said Dr. Nancy Massotto, Ph.D., founder of Holistic Moms Network. “Together with our co-sponsors, we hosted what we believe is the largest Twitter party ever about breastfeeding. We look forward to doing it again next year and including even more parents and breastfeeding supporters.”

The party, held for one hour during World Breastfeeding Week (www.worldbreastfeedingweek.org), included 562 participants and generated 5.6 million impressions. Participants answered the question, “I support breastfeeding because…” and talked as a group about sources of support and why finding a community is vital to meeting breastfeeding goals. In the 24 hours surrounding the party, over 760 participants generated almost 8 million impressions.

World Breastfeeding Week (www.worldbreastfeedingweek.org) is celebrated the first week of August in more than 170 countries worldwide. The World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA), founder of World Breastfeeding Week, is a global network of individuals and organisations concerned with the protection, promotion and support of breastfeeding worldwide. WABA action is based on the Innocenti Declaration, the Ten Links for Nurturing the Future and the Global Strategy for Infant & Young Child Feeding. Its core partners are IBFAN, LLLI, ILCA, Wellstart International and ABM. Find out more at the WABA website.

“Communities that support breastfeeding are everywhere,” said Massotto “but new moms and moms who are struggling can have trouble reaching out or finding the right specialized support. Social media and online communities have stepped in to fill the need for 24/7 encouragement and information, but also vital are in-person opportunities to meet with like-minded parents.”

Non-Solicitation Policy

The Holistic Moms Network is first and foremost a community for parents to network and to find other like-minded moms and dads with whom they can share information, resources, and friendship. We welcome all holistic parents who are also practitioners into our community and hope that they will share in the many benefits that HMN has to offer.

We do not, however, allow for direct marketing to our members either through our email loops, phone calls, websites, or mailing lists. We encourage all health care providers who join our organization as members to introduce themselves on their chapter email loop both as parents and professionals. However, we do not allow regular advertising on the members-only email loop or on the HMN Online Member Community and reserve the right to remove any member who violates this policy. Sharing news of a local free lecture or event of another non-profit organization or community activity or event is generally fine, but posting about your business’s sales/specials, your events requiring a fee, “free talks” which promote a for profit business, will result in members being warned and then removed from our communities.

One of the great things about our organization and communities is the advice, suggestions and resources we all share with one another. This is a beautiful thing and part of the strength of our group.

Keeping it simple: Using the chapter groups, email loops, Online Member Community, or chapter meetings as a marketing tool to promote your for profit business is solicitation.

A big reason why we take this stand on Solicitation is to prevent our group from becoming a mass marketing campaign. There are other groups out there who were started for this purpose – to look like an education/support group but whose intention is really to promote a specific business or practice. HMN is not that. We were started by moms for support and community and we continue to be authentically run by moms without another agenda. Our non-solicitation policy is about the integrity of our community and not compromising it for anyone else’s gain.

It is our desire that every family who wishes to belong to our community is able to do so.  That is why we established the Helping Moms in Need Program.  We are grateful to be able to offer memberships to parents who would like to become – or continue to be – members but are unable to do so because of financial hardship.

Many of our members are at-home moms (or dads) living on one income and we have worked hard to keep our membership fees low in recognition of the fact that we all need to live within a budget to manage our families. Our Helping Moms in Need Program is designed to help those who are facing difficult financial situations including but not limited to those who are single parents, temporarily unemployed, or receiving state or federal aid.

Helping Moms in Need memberships are awarded on the basis of financial need and are funded through generous donations from individuals, sponsors, and other donors.  All applications to our Helping Moms in Need Program will be reviewed and considered by our Program Committee and all information provided will be kept strictly confidential.  Giving a gift to our Helping Moms in Need Program is giving the gift of support to a mom in need:

I have learned to care for my family even better than before and keep them healthy without the need for expensive treatments that often don’t work or are harmful. . . This group empowers us as parents to take on the role to nurture and keep our families healthy.  I am thankful to have found my tribe!  I wish every woman had a chance to attend one meeting. I remember how wonderful I felt after my first meeting. I felt at home with all these women, and for me that was a new feeling I had not experienced before. I had always been on my own as a mom, with no other moms to share with. I now recommend this group to other moms I meet, even online in health groups I tell moms to visit HMN’s website and find a local chapter.  It’s truly a gift!  Thank you.”
